About NL News

NL News is an independent Unknown Roads project bringing Newfoundland and Labrador headlines, weather, tides and community classifieds into one place.

Our reporting, with sources

The public news feed contains NL News articles. Our source-based articles are original short accounts checked against official releases, with source links and publication dates. Other publishers’ headlines are private research leads in the editor’s desk. Editors verify facts and write an original story before publishing; research leads never publish automatically.

We do not automatically copy publisher or police photographs. Our site artwork includes an illustrative coastal landscape; it does not document a specific location or news event. Any future photograph must have a verified source and documented rights allowing commercial website use without a separate permission request; required credits and licence conditions must be honoured. Original stories, when published, are clearly labelled.

Community and public safety updates

Our community desk collects dated municipal notices, provincial government and NL Health Services releases, and official police releases from selected sources. Council links lead to official meeting schedules, agendas, minutes and available recordings. Meeting notices and proposed agenda items are not reported as decisions. NL News articles are original short accounts checked against the linked official sources. Articles show source publication, publication and review dates, with a takeaway for local readers. The separate police desk contains attributed public safety notices with additional appeal checks. Public appeals remain in the live police desk rather than being made into persistent personal stories. Municipal coverage is selected and source availability varies. The source directory shows the current connections and failures. RCMP detachment filters use explicitly named units in the shared provincial feed; they do not infer policing boundaries. Police appeals are checked against the original release, and resolved appeals are shown without repeating their original identifying headline.

Useful daily information

Weather is supplied by Environment and Climate Change Canada; tide predictions by the Canadian Hydrographic Service. Marine conditions can change quickly. Predictions are not observations or a substitute for official warnings, navigation guidance or local judgement.

Support and independence

Ko-fi contributions and clearly labelled sponsorship help support the site. Sponsors do not control our headlines. Support does not buy ownership or source code rights.
